From an elevated tee the drive is into a hollow, or, for the big hitters, beyond the hollow to a level area leading to the green. In all cases direction is more important than distance. A drive too far left may find trees and the out-of-bounds fence, whereas a drive to the right brings a bunker into play for the approach shot. The green slopes left and away from the player so when the ground is hard it is difficult to stop the approach shot on the putting surface.
