Another busy week started on Monday with the Ladies playing their July Extra Medal – runner-up was Frances Turner (25) with a nett 74 but the winner was Pauline Grant (33) whose nett 70 earned her a one stroke cut in her handicap. On Tuesday the Juniors joined the Seniors in a Texas Scramble. Junior Peter Maxwell led his team of Allan Bantick, Jane Kerr and Alison Wood to victory. On Thursday, the Seniors played their regular nine-hole stableford won by Alison Wood with 24 points. The ladies were in action again on Saturday competing for the Beaton Bowl. An excellent nett 66 by Margaret Smith (21) was eclipsed by Lady Captain Aileen Morgan’s (28) nett 65 . This brings Aileen down to 27. On Sunday the club hosted an Open Texas Scramble for the Cairngorm National Park Trophy. A large field played through a real mixture of weather. Willie Gray (pictured holding the bottle) had a hole in one at the 11th hole but that was not enough to drag his team into the prize money. In fourth place were The Young Ones (a junior team of Andrew Strathdee, Peter Strathdee, Colin Mouat and Bruce Mouat) 64 – 10.5 = 53.5; in third place were the Kingussie team of K Hunter, W Fairgreaves, D Fairgreaves and F Mackintosh 56 – 2.5 = 53.5 bih, runners-up were the Grantown team of Bob Mitchell, Gillian Mitchell, Sue McLaren and Andrew McLaren 61 – 9.1 = 51.9 and the winners were the Abernethy team of Margaret Smith, Ian Murray Snr, Ian Murray Jnr and Kevin Strathdee 56 – 5.3 = 50.7.

A busy week started with the Ladies playing the second round of their Eclectic on Monday. Leader from the first round Christine Reynolds shaved a few strokes off her total but with one round still to go this is still a very open competition. On Tuesday, the Seniors played against Carrbridge Seniors. Despite home advantage Abernethy only won 2.5 matches to Carrbridge’s 3.5. The return match next month is eagerly awaited. The Seniors were in action again on Thursday with their regular 9 hole Stableford. This was won by Ian Wilson with an impressive 25 points. On Friday the Juniors played their monthly medal. Some great golf was played and all competitors equalled or bettered the CSS. The runner-up was Colin Mouat (38) with a nett 61 just pipped by Adair Montgomery (34) nett 60. The same Juniors were in action again on Saturday competing for the Humber Glover Trophy. This time Adair (31) nett 61 could only manage runner-up being beaten by brother David Montgomery (34) nett 58. Both David and Adair had their handicap reduced to 29. On Sunday, the men competed in their monthly medal. In very difficult windy conditions Allan Bantick (11) and Bob Mouat (14) both scored a nett 69 with Bob Mouat taking the honours on countback.
